God’s Covenant is Not Racial The Covenant The Refusal Israelite’s Refusal to Enter Promised Land God’s Expulsion Was Israelite Natives of Palestine? Muslim Claim to Jerusalem and Palestine Conclusion
What is The Promised Land Promised Land is the stretch of land from Egypt to Turkey and extending to Saudi Arabia and Iraq as mentioned in: Genesis 15:18 “On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, “To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi[a] of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates—”
And God has kept His promise with those who have kept His covenant. You will see All the lands of Genesis 15:18 except some major parts of Palestine which has been occupied through anti-covenant terror, belong to Muslims, as Muslims are the people and spiritual descendants of Abraham, who kept the covenant God made with Abraham as we shall see in the discussion and Arabs are Abraham’s direct descendants through his son Prophet Ishmael.
God’s Covenant is Not Racial
God’s covenant cannot be said to be based on racism as God is not racist. Jewish claim to promised land or Eretz Israel based on God’s promise to Abraham and his descendants was not racial. If it was racial current day European Jewish converts absolutely do not deserve the promised land. As God’s covenant is purely a religious aspect which seeks worship and obedience from His servants in and blessings and favor in return it follows that being an Israelite of Abraham’s descent is not the primary condition. This is the context highlighted both in Quran and Bible that in order for God’s blessings to be fulfilled God’s covenant must also be fulfilled.
Jews have no right today to Palestine and promised land in general. On the other hand, Muslims have the most right if we consider it based on Divine covenant fulfillment. First of all, covenant was made with Abraham. In Quran Abraham is a Muslim and God demands His descendants to be also righteous i.e. Muslim. We see this when God refuses Abraham’s plea of general inclusion of His descendants in the covenant. From this, then one thing is clear which is covenant demands fulfillment through faith and worship of God. In Quran it clearly rejects sinners and disbelievers from God’s covenant: Quran 2:124 “And [mention, O Muhammad], when Abraham was tried by his Lord with commands and he fulfilled them. [ Allah ] said, "Indeed, I will make you a leader for the people." [Abraham] said, "And of my descendants?" [ Allah ] said, "My covenant does not include the wrongdoers.”
Both holy Quran and Bible also gives similar condition of fulfilling covenant in return for God’s blessings. However, Israelites refused to obey God and hence breaking the covenant and denying God’s blessings which is the promised land:
The Covenant Quran 2:83 “And [recall] when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel, [enjoining upon them], "Do not worship except Allah ; and to parents do good and to relatives, orphans, and the needy. And speak to people good [words] and establish prayer and give Zakah (charity)." Then you turned away, except a few of you, and you were refusing.”
Quran 2:40 “O Children of Israel, remember My favor which I have bestowed upon you and fulfill My covenant [upon you] that I will fulfill your covenant [from Me], and be afraid of [only] Me.”
(Bible) Jeremiah 7:23 “but I gave them this command: Obey me, and I will be your God and you will be my people. Walk in obedience to all I command you, that it may go well with you”
(Bible) Exodus 19:5 “Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine”
The Refusal Quran 2:83 “And [recall] when We took the covenant from the Children of Israel, [enjoining upon them], "Do not worship except Allah ; and to parents do good and to relatives, orphans, and the needy. And speak to people good [words] and establish prayer and give Zakah (charity)." Then you turned away, except a few of you, and you were refusing.”
Quran 2:93 “And [recall] when We took your covenant and raised over you the mount, [saying], "Take what We have given you with determination and listen." They said [instead], "We hear and disobey." And their hearts absorbed [the worship of] the calf because of their disbelief. Say, "How wretched is that which your faith enjoins upon you, if you should be believers.”
Quran 4:155 “And [We cursed them] for their breaking of the covenant and their disbelief in the signs of Allah and their killing of the prophets without right and their saying, "Our hearts are wrapped". Rather, Allah has sealed them because of their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few.”
(Bible) Psalm 78:10 “They did not keep God's covenant, but refused to walk according to his law”
(Bible) Psalms 78:8 “They would not be like their ancestors— a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose hearts were not loyal to God, whose spirits were not faithful to him.”
(Bible) Isaiah 24 “The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant.”
(Bible) Jeremiah 11:10 “They have returned to the sins of their ancestors, who refused to listen to my words. They have followed other gods to serve them. Both Israel and Judah have broken the covenant I made with their ancestors.”
Israelite’s Refusal to Enter Promised Land Quran 5:24 “They said, "O Moses, indeed we will not enter it, ever, as long as they are within it; so go, you and your Lord, and fight. Indeed, we are remaining right here.”
God’s Expulsion Quran 5:26 [ Allah ] said, "Then indeed, it is forbidden to them. For forty years [in which] they will wander throughout the land. So do not grieve over the defiantly disobedient people." The well-established view among Quranic exegetists is that for disobedience the Israelites were prohibited forever the promised land.
Was Israelites Natives of Palestine?
Genesis 17:8, NIV: "The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.'"
This verse clearly suggests that they were not natives but foreigners in others’ lands.
Muslim Claim to Jerusalem and Palestine As Muslims have fulfilled the covenant with God and as Al-Aqsa is a chosen place of God it simply follows that Muslims are deserving Palestine as being spiritual descendants of Abraham, as Abraham was a Muslim. Quran 3:67 “Abraham was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allah ]. And he was not of the polytheists.” Not only that but all Israelite Prophets were Muslims: Quran 2:133 “Or were you witnesses when death approached Jacob, when he said to his sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We will worship your God and the God of your fathers, Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac - one God. And we are Muslims [in submission] to Him.” Quran 10:84 “And Moses said, "O my people, if you have believed in Allah, then rely upon Him, if you should be Muslims.” As to God’s (Allah’s) assignment of Al-Aqsa to Islam: Quran 17:1 “Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-haram to al-Masjid al- Aqsa (Jerusalem), whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.”
Conclusion The land which was promised to descendants of Abraham was conditional on them fulfilling the covenant with God according to both Bible and Quran, and also according to both Bible and Quran, they, the Israelites didn't fulfill the covenant, so you will see God has cursed those Israelites in both Bible and Quran. According to Quran 2:124 and Quran 3:67 the covenant has been fulfilled by Muslims, Abraham’s spiritual descendants. Apart from this God has also chosen Al-Aqsa for Islam as in Quran 17:1. It is also noteworthy to see Israelites were foreigners in Palestine (promised land). If the Jews today fulfill the covenant i.e. accept Islam they can have the promised land in genesis 15:18 “from the Wadi[a] of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates”. If however Jews say the promised land is conditioned with racial identity with Israelites only, then the Jews today have no right to any land whatsoever. Israelites are long gone. In fact, if you consider the race card then Arabs are the legitimate owner of Palestine as being direct descendants of Abraham through Prophet Ishmael according to Islamic history and Prophetic texts. Muslims as owners of Jerusalem and Palestine have shown throughout history tolerance and peaceful co-existence with other faiths unlike Zionist Jews. Muslims had made Palestine a sanctuary for persecuted Jews who were fleeing Christian tyranny from Christian Europe. This Islamic tolerance is the reason as well as to why God only included the righteous servants in His covenant with Abraham in Quran 2:124. Racists and greedy sinning servants are not in God’s covenant due to their unwelcoming nature and violence.
